Overview of Our Services

Château Westmount has four units offering a range of healthcare services. In each service, we base all our care on what each resident really needs.

Care Plans

Every care plan is different because every person is different.

We offer specialized services for a range of different needs, including:

  • Elderly individuals with a loss of autonomy.
  • Elderly individuals with physical impairments.
  • Elderly individuals with cognitive impairments. (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease or dementia)
  • End-of-life care.

Our Meals

Three times a day, meals are carefully prepared by our chef under the supervision of our nutritionist.

  • Meals are served in the main dining room on the ground floor, or in the dining rooms of care units.
  • Cyclic menus, winter and summer over 6 weeks each, offering a great variety.
  • Meals are adapted to the taste of each.
  • Snacks are available 24/7.
  • Possibility for visitors to have a meal with the resident ($).
  • Possibility to book the Penthouse for a special event.

Recreational Activities

Service Description

The goal of recreation services is to improve the quality of life and well-being of residents. Activities are targeted and adapted to the needs of each individual.

Expected benefits:

  • Promote independence.
  • Improve communication and encourage social interaction.
  • Reduce anxiety.

Activities:

  • Individual activities (pet therapy, reading, friendly visits, music therapy, puzzles, etc.)
  • Group activities (art club, board games, bingo, physical games, gardening, social club, etc.)
  • Musical programs (jazz corner, Zumba, singing, concerts, dance, etc.)
  • Special events (Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, New Year’s Eve, etc.)
  • Religious programming (Shabbat, catholic mass)
  • Intergenerational activities (visits from students, partnership with a daycare facility, etc.)

Volunteers:

  • We recruit volunteers in order to assist and help motivate residents to participate in activities.
  • Volunteers also take part in friendly visits.

Food Service & Clinical Nutrition

Service Details

The Château Westmount menu is developed by the chef and the nutritionist.

  • Our meals are designed to provide home-style cooking with a touch of haute cuisine.
  • Dining services aim to provide nutritious, balanced, and tasty meals that accommodate our residents’ preferences and support their health in an adapted and pleasant environment.
  • The menu operates on a seasonal basis with a 6-week cycle and 7 alternative choices at all times.
  • The Canada Food Guide (CFG) is our reference.
  • Special menus are offered for holidays and birthdays, and barbecues are prepared during the summer season.
  • Special private occasions may also be prepared for residents and their families.

The clinical nutritionist’s role at CHSLD Château Westmount:

  • To assess residents’ overall nutritional status by monitoring food intake and weight.
  • Promote hydration and adequate fibre intake.
  • Assess appropriate diet and food texture.
  • Plan menus to create balanced meals using fresh seasonal ingredients and local produce in collaboration with the chef and his team.
  • Adapt menus to residents’ preferences.
  • Ensure energy and protein intake based on residents’ requirements.
  • Evaluate dysphagia and make recommendations adapted to the resident.
  • Monitor and evaluate tolerance to tube feeding.
  • Educate caregivers on safe feeding practices.
  • Support the care team regarding wound prevention and management.
  • Cooperate with the interdisciplinary team, which focuses on quality using evidence-based information.

Other spaces in your environment:

The PENTHOUSE on the 6th floor is a private area for users that offers a panoramic view of Mount Royal, St. Joseph’s Oratory, and the city of Westmount. It’s a haven of tranquility where users and their loved ones can celebrate birthdays and gather for private lunches or dinners. In addition, a piano is available for private concerts.

On the first floor, an elegant lounge area with illuminated chandeliers and warm décor welcomes you. A second piano is in the center of the lounge, where concerts are scheduled every Friday.

The pièce de résistance is the private INNER COURTYARD, with landscaping, a fountain, pavilion, tables, chairs, and sun parasols, as well as a smoking area reserved for residents.

Food Service & Clinical Nutrition

Developed by the clinical nutritionist and the chef, the nutritional services offer outstanding options to our residents.

  • Meals are served in your room, in the upstairs dining area, or at L’orchidée, our main dining room located on the ground floor.
  • Snacks and beverages are served in the afternoon and according to your nutritional needs.

Meals:

  • Breakfast: choice of fruits, yogurt, baked goods, hot or cold cereals, and meats.
  • Traditional breakfast: eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes, hot drinks, fruit juice.
  • Lunch and dinner: choice of soup or salad, main course, dessert, and beverage.
  • Other meal options available at lunch and dinner: choice of sandwiches, pasta, omelets, grilled chicken, or hamburger.

Nursing Services

Service Description

The nursing and assistance team includes:

  • Nursing Director: Responsible for the quality and implementation of the facility’s programs, policies, and administrative and operational processes. He ensures compliance with legislation and the application of Accreditation Canada standards, as well as the quality of the living environment (MSSS) and standards of practice of professional orders (OIIQ, OIIAQ).
  • Clinical Advisor: Responsible for the quality of care, including infection prevention and control, safety of care, and clinical risk management.
  • Nursing Coordinators: On-site 24/7. Responsible for the daily application of best practices as recommended by the nursing department. They accompany you on a daily basis, develop your intervention plan and implement the various care plans necessary for your care. They are responsible for the care teams and handle communications with the nursing assistants and personal service workers to ensure continuity of care and services.
  • Nursing Assistants: On-site 24/7 and providing your daily care, including the administration of medication.
  • Personal Support Workers: Often referred to as “PABs” (préposés aux bénéficiaires). They will also assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with everyday activities. Upon your arrival, you will be assigned a PSW as a “Companion Attendant”. She or he will be your go-to person for questions and concerns and will direct you to the right person, if necessary.

Service Description

CHSLD Château Westmount has a group doctors on staff. They are present three days a week and can be reached by the nurses at any time following an assessment of needs.

One of the two doctors will be assigned to your file. Your doctor will conduct a complete examination within a week of your admission to assess your health and write prescriptions as necessary. A regular follow-up of your health will be carried out. The doctor will discuss with you your preferences regarding the “level of care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation” in order to ensure that your choices are respected, should a critical situation arise.

We also have a regular consultant:

  • Psychiatrist specializing in gerontology.

Physical Therapy

Service Details

A kinesiologist is a professional trained in maximizing function, autonomy, and physical well-being through the prescription of exercise in chronically symptomatic individuals. His activities are in line with CHSLD Château Westmount’s philosophy, which is focused on optimizing the quality of life for its residents.

Optimizing Independent Mobility and Risk Management:

In mobile individuals, an individualized fitness and strategic strengthening program can provide the resources needed to balance physical independence and safety.

Preservation of the Level of Mobility:

In residents whose current level of mobility is challenged due to progressive disease or decreased physical activity, an individualized fitness program may increase physical resources that, in turn, will contribute to preserving the desired level of independence.

Preservation of Essential Elements of Movement:

Certain elements of movement, such as range of motion, are necessary for quality nursing care delivery. Management of spasticity and prevention of muscle contractures are crucial to achieving proper hygiene and appearance, and to ensure the integrity of skin as well.

Recreation and Activities:

Our facilities were built with the above therapeutic interventions in mind, and these have top priority. However, they may also be used for leisure by residents who still have an active lifestyle.

Occupational Therapy

Service Description

Occupational therapy is an integral part of health care services provided at CHSLD Château Westmount, in order to improve the quality of life of residents with physical, cognitive, or psychological limitations and to optimize their functional autonomy with respect to daily living activities.

The role of the occupational therapist includes but is not limited to, the following functions:

  • Education on effective strategies for maximizing performance in daily living activities.
  • Assessment and management of dysphagia.
  • Prevention and management of falls, use of control measures.
  • Recommendations regarding therapeutic surfaces related to the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.
  • Recommendations regarding technical aids to support residents’ positioning and mobility.
  • Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in the development of intervention plans.
  • Coordination of services with government health care partners (RAMQ, CNESST, SAAQ).
  • Recommendation of specialized technological aids for access to communication and computer devices.
  • Cognitive assessment and management of problem behaviours.

Massage Therapy

Service Description

This service is offered on-site at CHSLD Château Westmount. A nicely appointed room welcomes you directly in-house, offering all the tranquility required for a therapeutic massage, with no need to leave the building.

Relaxing massage for seniors:

These massage techniques applied are designed to relieve and prevent pain and reduce physical and psychological stress in the elderly.

  • Swedish massage: A versatile technique with multiple benefits. First and foremost, this massage tones and relaxes the muscles. It also promotes blood and lymphatic circulation, as well as the elimination of toxins. Swedish massage allows you to relax and unwind, body and mind.
  • Lymphatic drainage: A subtle technique specialized to drain the lymphatic system and stimulate the circulation of lymph in the body, it is effective in relieving inflammation, arthritis, medication, and digestive disorders.
  • Reflexology: Technique that applies pressure to specific points for indirect healing of body organs.
  • Aromatherapy: This practice, designed to target the central nervous system, relieves depression and anxiety, and reduces stress.

Service Details

Community pharmacist (subcontractor):

Registration for pharmaceutical services is required in accordance with RAMQ regulations.

Our pharmacist provides an exclusive service in order to meet our criteria for external services and uniform administration of medication for each resident:

    • The community pharmacist performs an individualized follow-up of your medical prescriptions and is on-site one day every other week.
    • The pharmacist oversees all medication-related activities, including delivery, professional training, and specific medication monitoring, including Medication Reconciliation.
    • You are responsible for paying the medication costs.

  • Ophthalmologist and optometrist (external service)
  • Dentist and denturist (external service)
  • Foot care nurse (external service)
  • Social worker specialized in psychosocial assessment (external service)
  • Laboratory and pharmacy services (external)
  • Hair salon on the ground floor.

Technical Services

Service Details

These services include maintenance, hygiene, sanitation, and laundry.

Maintenance Department:

The maintenance department is present 7 days a week, from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is responsible for the preventive maintenance of equipment and the building, as well as for handling any necessary repairs.

Housekeeping Staff:

The housekeeping staff is present 7 days a week, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the living environments. Your room is fully cleaned on a weekly basis.

Sheets, Blankets and Towels:

Sheets, blankets, and towels are provided as part of our services and are laundered by an outside laundry service.

Laundry Department:

In addition, residents’ clothing laundry is done in the living environments by the personal service workers or PABs. We strongly recommend that you identify ALL clothing items.

Technical Services Department:

The Technical Services Department is responsible for the Emergency Measures Plan and the Fire Safety Plan. Evacuation drills are scheduled annually.
